With the fast paced fashion industry, people buy more and more clothes each year. The unfortunate truth is a lot these textile pieces don’t get to see another life, and end up in the landfills. Textile waste has become a huge problem. Acceding to the Council for Textile Clothing the average U.S. citizen throws away 70 lbs of clothing each year. Try out these tips before throwing out any textiles:

1. Exchange your clothing with friends. Get together with people who have clothing they no longer want and create a swap and share or exchange clothing. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

2. Maybe you have some pieces that you could make money from. Try selling them online and make your money back.

3. Re-purpose your clothes. If you have clothing that has holes and is beyond repair, turn them into rags for cleaning or an apron for cooking. Get creative and make a craft out of them.

4. Another default option is to donate. There are many places that will accept used clothing, like Goodwill.

5. Take it to a recycling station. In Jackson Granger takes textiles at their drop off center. Overall, try to keep clothing out of the landfill. There are so many ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle textiles.
